DOUBLE trophy
success within a week has set John Kernaghan well on the way to passing
last year's silverware tally of five as he enjoys his best-ever start
to a season.
Hard on the
heels of his McAlister Tankard win Kernaghan added the prestigious Lord
Kingarth Trophy to his honours total last Saturday with 43 points in
the stableford competition. Despite a handicap cut from 13 to 11 there
was no stopping this prolific winner as he coasted to victory three
points clear of his nearest challenger thanks mainly to a strong finish
with two birdies over the last three holes for gross 72.
And just for
good measure on Sunday the player, now cut to 10-handicap, finished
second in the Kingarth leg of the M&M Trophy with an impressive net
62.
The best of
the also-rans in the Lord Kingarth Trophy were: John Girvan (20) 40
points, Graham Connor (12) 39, John Stewart (22) and David Bryden (9)
both 38. The competition scratch score was 64.
Kernaghan is
back on the trophy trail tomorrow (Saturday) in the first qualifying
round for the club championship and the Cuthbertson Cup. The usual ballot
takes place at the clubhouse at 8.30am.
